Oh, the things that excite me these days!

My first thought when I woke up this morning (besides how nauseated I was!) was "the sand comes today!"

We have been in a drought. So the rain that we have been receiving lately is technically a good thing. But we live in a relatively low lying area and we don't have a lot of grass. This means that the rain translates into mud. The house is full of mud from the kids tracking it in. The goat shelters are full of mud. The alleyway that they walk down to get to the dairy is full of mud. Mud, mud everywhere!

We finally decided it was time to bite the bullet and fix the problem, once and for all. We can never lift the entire property out of the mud, but we can raise the goat shelters and alleyway up enough to make a huge difference to the goats. So we ordered the sand. Eight dump trucks full. Five have been delivered, the remaining three will be delivered tomorrow. We will fill the alleyway the old fashioned way, with wheelbarrows, but the shelters will take a lot more than that--we have a friend coming with his tractor Monday morning to help us.

I was thinking as I ran an errand today how sad it is that something like sand being delivered made my week. It made me wonder, what would have gotten me excited and optimistic like this when we lived in the city? I really couldn't imagine anything. I am not sure if this means that I am living a sad and barren life now--or if I did then. At any rate it doesn't matter. The sand is here, more is coming, oh happy day!
